No one can speak for you like you can.
Unlike many traditional jobs, household employment doesn’t come with an HR department, a supervisor, or another layer of management between you and your employer. Even if an agency guides the process or negotiates on your behalf, you are ultimately the person who has to understand the terms, agree to them, and live with the contract every day. That means you need to be an active participant in the process, ask questions, identify what matters to you, and make sure the final agreement reflects your needs and interests.
Your contract is your financial protection.
Your contract doesn’t just outline your hourly wage. It outlines all your earnings, including overtime, guaranteed hours, stipends, raises, and even bonuses. It defines your PTO and accompanying policies so you can actually take the vacation time you negotiated. It gives clear direction for what you’re owed if you’re fired or quit, including notice and pay if the family chooses not to have you work that notice period. A strong contract provides the financial clarity and protections you need from your first day to your last.
Good relationships start with clear communication.
A contract is simply communication turned into a clear, written roadmap. It clarifies and captures shared philosophies, expectations, boundaries, employment terms, and agreements. By locking in these details upfront, you lock in the clarity needed for a positive, sustainable job.
You'll learn skills you'll use over and over again.
Whether you’re accepting your first position, negotiating your fifth contract, or updating an agreement after years with the same family, these are skills you’ll use in every situation. Invest in yourself once, and watch it pay out time and time again.
Sessions
Five in-depth sessions to give you the know-how, skills, & tools to create the contract you deserve.
Understanding your rights starts with understanding the laws that actually apply to household employment. We’ll separate fact from fiction, cover the employment protections you do and don’t have, answer common legal questions, and explain how industry standards fit alongside the law.
A contract that represents your needs and interests starts long before anyone signs it. We’ll walk through how to define what you need, what’s negotiable, and professionally present your must-haves and preferences. You’ll learn when to introduce contract conversations during the hiring process, how to navigate negotiations (and pushback) whether you’re working directly with a family or through an agency, and how to respond when you’re presented with a contract that doesn’t meet your needs. The goal isn’t just getting a contract. It’s reaching an agreement that works for everyone.
Once the negotiation is complete, it’s time to turn your agreements, understanding, and expectations into a written document that will serve as the foundation for your employment success. We’ll cover what should be included, what should be left out, how to organize employment terms and policies, and how to write language that is clear, practical, and minimizes misunderstandings. We’ll also discuss how contracts differ for nannies, family assistants, and hybrid roles so your agreement accurately reflects your position.
We’ll discuss the unique needs of high-demand and specialized roles, including travel and ROTA positions, and other employment situations that are outside a traditional role. We’ll also cover how to address contracts prepared by a family office or family attorney, including how to suggest and incorporate terms that are important to you but were not included in the original agreement.

MEET YOUR CONTRACT EXPERT
Thirty-five years ago, I created the first version of the A to Z Nanny Contract because I needed a way to outline employment terms, establish shared expectations, and build a strong working relationship with my first nanny family. I started sharing it with nannies in my local community, and what began as a simple resource eventually became the foundation of my business. Over the past twenty-five years, thousands of A to Z Nanny Contracts have helped in-home professionals and families create stronger employment relationships. Along the way, I’ve consulted with countless nannies, family assistants, and employers, continually refining the contract to reflect real-world experience, changing employment laws, industry trends, and the evolving needs of today’s employment relationships.
